Bringing together teams from across the Rakuten Group, including Rakuten Advertising, Rakuten TV, Rakuten Insight, Rakuten Europe, Rakuten Symphony, ShopStyle and Viber, the new office at Vintners Place will serve as a hub for our UK operations.
The new office is just a stones throw away from our previous office and is conveniently located within a 10-minute walk from London Bridge, Blackfriars and Mansion House tube stations. As well as panaramic views of the River Thames, our office as 20 meeting rooms and event space. Our team also benefit from access to ample health & wellbeing facilities including a wellness studio, gym and swimming pool to easily integrate these activities into their working day.
Daryl Merrick-English, Facilities & Operations Manager, who helped develop the new office space, explained that the new space was designed for maximum flexibility. “The new London office was a real challenge with a very tight deadline and some ambitious sustainability goals which we kept at the forefront of our planning along the way. We learned a lot of lessons and we hope to use this model for future office moves within the company and put more thought into the lifespan of the resources we have available. Due to a fantastic team effort, we’ve managed to create a great looking space with superb features that we’ll continue to build upon as we settle into our new Rakuten home!”
Reducing our environmental impact
Sustainability was at the forefront of our minds during the office move and we worked diligently to reduce our environmental impact as much as possible. We looked at over 30 potential spaces to find the right fit that would allow us to use our existing floor plate as much as possible to reduce construction. A big thank you to our design & build contractor, DMG Workplace, who supported our sustainability goals and helped us achieve the following:
- Reused: We kept the office furniture that was in the best condition and had it restored. We reused over 140 items including tables, chairs, desks and sofas.
- Recycled: Over 300 items were recycled sustainably. These items were broken down into component parts and recycled accordingly. The only component item that went to landfill was the foam from the chairs/seating. This is not currently recyclable.
- Donated: We gave over 70 items a new home by donating them to our partner, NHS’s St George’s Hospital.
A sustainable future is something that matters greatly to us and we’re proud to have met the needs of our growing business with minimal environmental impact.
